There are trips you take just to get some rest, and then there are those trips — magical, mystical, and breathtaking, where your journey turns into an unexpected adventure. That is exactly what our visit to Romania, specifically Transylvania, was like. Here is our first-hand story of where we went, what we saw, and how much fun we had. So, let’s dive in! We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Brașov. From our windows, we had a stunning view of cornfields and distant hills where the word RAȘNOV was spelled out in huge white letters, just like the Hollywood sign. Since we already had a tight schedule and hadn't known beforehand about the gorgeous medieval Rașnov Citadel, we decided we'd have to save it for next time. We did find out, however, that during the summer, this citadel becomes the epicenter of a massive metal festival called Rockstadt Extreme .  In October 2024, I took a road trip to Timișoara with my boyfriend — and it turned out to be an absolute hit!  This charming city in western Romania has a population of around 250,000 and carries the nickname “Little Vienna” thanks to its rich history spanning over eight centuries and its breathtaking Baroque architecture. Beyond its beauty, Timișoara holds a pivotal place in history — it was right here in December 1989 that the revolution breaking Ceaușescu’s regime began. It was also a true pioneer of its era, becoming the first city in continental Europe to introduce electric street lighting back in 1884.  That unique mix of rich history, European charm, and the fact that it’s just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Novi Sad makes it the ultimate spot for a spontaneous weekend escape.
