 In October 2024, I took a road trip to Timișoara with my boyfriend — and it turned out to be an absolute hit!  This charming city in western Romania has a population of around 250,000 and carries the nickname “Little Vienna” thanks to its rich history spanning over eight centuries and its breathtaking Baroque architecture. Beyond its beauty, Timișoara holds a pivotal place in history — it was right here in December 1989 that the revolution breaking Ceaușescu’s regime began. It was also a true pioneer of its era, becoming the first city in continental Europe to introduce electric street lighting back in 1884.  That unique mix of rich history, European charm, and the fact that it’s just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Novi Sad makes it the ultimate spot for a spontaneous weekend escape.
